Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Qalam ("Qalam", "we", "us") handles information when you use our AI-powered Arabic learning service.
Qalam is currently operating without a separately stated legal entity name. For legal and business inquiries, please use the support contact provided on this website.
1. Account Information
When you create an account we process your email address, your authentication credentials (handled by our authentication provider), and an optional display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic profile information that Google shares with us for sign-in.
2. Learning Progress
We store your learning activity so the service can work as expected: lessons started or completed, experience points (XP), level, streak days, and your last activity date.
3. Conversation Content
Text you send to the AI teacher, and the replies it generates, are processed to produce your lesson responses. Your recent conversation history and your self-ratings of AI replies are stored in your own browser's local storage on your device, not on our servers.
4. Voice and Audio Data
Voice features are optional. If you choose to use hold-to-speak, the audio you record is sent to our speech-to-text provider so it can be transcribed into text, and text you or the AI teacher produce may be sent to a text-to-speech provider so it can be spoken back to you. Qalam does not use audio for biometric identification and does not create or store voiceprints. Qalam does not keep your audio recordings after processing. Provider-side handling is described in section 7.
5. Technical and Security Information
Our infrastructure providers process standard technical information needed to deliver and secure the service, such as network request information and error logs.
6. Payment and Subscription Information
Payments are processed by PayPal. Qalam does not receive or store your full payment card details. We store subscription records that we need in order to grant access: your plan, its status, PayPal transaction or subscription identifiers, the amount and currency, and the billing period dates.
7. AI-Powered Learning
Qalam uses artificial intelligence to provide Arabic learning assistance, including corrections, explanations, pronunciation help, and conversational practice. To do this, text you submit and, when you use voice features, your audio are sent to AI providers for processing.
AI-generated educational content can be incomplete or incorrect. It is learning assistance, not an authoritative source, and it should not be relied upon as professional, legal, medical, or financial advice.
Our AI, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech requests are routed through the Lovable AI Gateway, which currently uses OpenAI models for transcription and speech. The retention behavior of the underlying AI providers is governed by their own terms.
8. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following categories of service providers:
- Authentication, database, and backend hosting: Supabase (via Lovable Cloud)
- Optional social sign-in: Google
- AI, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech: Lovable AI Gateway (OpenAI models)
- Payments: PayPal
- Application hosting: Lovable
We do not use advertising networks and we do not sell personal information.
9. Data Retention
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, maintain security, resolve disputes, and comply with applicable legal obligations. We also retain information as needed to prevent fraud and pursue legitimate business purposes.
10. Data Security
Access to your data is restricted at the database level so that you can only read and write your own records. Entitlement and billing records can only be changed by trusted server-side processes. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing or withdraw consent. Not every right applies to every user in every location. To make a request, please use the support contact provided on this website.
12. Account and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated learning data; to do so, please use the support contact provided on this website. Some records may be retained where we are required or permitted to keep them, for example billing records.
13. Children's Privacy
Qalam is intended for users who meet the minimum age required in their country to use an online service and to agree to our Terms. Where a minor is permitted to use the service, they should do so with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without the required consent, please use the support contact provided on this website.
14. International Users
Qalam is available internationally. Your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including by the providers listed above.
15. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
