Personal pronouns
الضَّمائِر
I, you, he, she, we, they — and sentences with no verb 'to be'.
You will learn
- Use the main pronouns
- Distinguish masculine and feminine 'you'
- Make 'to be' sentences without a verb
The pronouns
أَنا I · أَنْتَ you (m) · أَنْتِ you (f) · هُوَ he · هِيَ she · نَحْنُ we · هُمْ they (m).
No verb 'to be' in the present
Arabic says 'I student', not 'I am a student': أَنا طالِب. هِيَ مُعَلِّمة = she is a teacher.
- أَنا طالِب — anā ṭālib — I am a student (m)
- هُوَ مُعَلِّم — huwa muʿallim — he is a teacher
