Joining letters
الاتِّصال
How letters connect, and the six that never join forward.
You will learn
- Recognise letters in joined words
- Know the six non-connectors ا د ذ ر ز و
- Read common joined words
Letters change shape
Most letters join the letter after them, and their shape shrinks when joined. ب in بيت is just a small tooth with a dot.
The six non-connectors
ا د ذ ر ز و join the letter before them but never the one after, so a small gap follows them. In دار, no letters join at all.
- دَار — dār — house, home
- وَرْد — ward — roses
