You will learn

Familiar sounds

ك (k), ل (l), م (m), ن (n) and ه (h as in 'hat') all have English equivalents. When ل is followed by ا they combine into a special shape: لا (lā, 'no').

و and ي do double duty

و is w and ي is y as consonants, but they also write the long vowels ū and ī — you'll use this in the long vowels lesson.
